Dream Memory Mash Up
This week we tried a writing experiment. We each wrote five lines describing one of our earliest childhood memories and five lines describing a vivid dream. Then we cut apart all ten sentences and rearranged them to make a poem. The results surprised us. See what you think.
Collecting Rocks
We went to the countryside to collect rocks.
I dream of my daughter at the age of 3.
My mother is collecting rocks.
My daughter is always the age of 3 in my dream.
My dad driving us out to collect rocks.
She is always running away from me at the age of 3.
My mother being happy collecting rocks.
My mother collecting rocks for her garden.
I dream of her now at the age she is.

Time Passed
The water flows gently through the creek.
It was fun
In a daisy field lying down.
It was a sunny day.
The landscape filled with the colours of yellow and white.
I could ride it in the backyard.
There are many hills and a path to the creek.
It went fast.
It was a blue bike.
It was a tricycle.

Cornered
I am being chased by gangsters dressed in black.
I dodge into all the alleys and hiding places I know.
I find gladiolas in a pail in the garage.
I think my father is going to plant the flowers in our back garden.
So I plant each glad in a hole I dig in the garden.
The gangsters have me cornered.
Suddenly my feet lift from the ground and I am flying high out of their reach, above the rooftops of our street.
When my father looks for his flowers,
he laughs to see them tilting in the garden out back.
My father bought gladiolas for church on Sunday.
I am running out of breath.
